Can I have my vehicle coverted to run on LPG?

Most four stroke spark ignition engines can be converted to LPG, which range from older carburetor vehicles to fuel injected vehicle, with or without catalytic convertors, and 'closed loop' fuel injection systems.

What savings will I make by converting to LPG?

By converting to LPG, you will save up to 50% of your fuel costs (current costs for LPG are between 35p and 40p per litre), as well as lower road tax and reduced wear on the engine.

How much will it cost?

This can vary from £1,000 to £2,500 excl. VAT depending on the vehicle being converted, and the system being installed.

Where will the LPG tank be fitted?

This depends on the vehicle being converted and can be either toroidal (donut tank in the spare wheel well), cylinder in the boot, sill tanks, or an underbody tank. You will be advised of the best option for your vehicle.

How long does the conversion take?

This can take between 2 and 5 days depending on the conversion.

Will I achieve more MPG after the conversion?

No. There is a loss of mileage on LPG of between 5% - 15%, but when you bear in mind the cost of LPG over petrol or diesel this loss is insignificant.

Where can I fill up?

We are able to supply you with LPG, but there are also over 1300 refuelling stations in the UK. For a list of filling points go to www.lpga.co.uk

What happens if I run out of LPG or Petrol?

Your vehicle is bi-fuel, so you can switch between either fuel. The system that we install will automatically switch over fuels should you run out.

How often should the vehicle be serviced?

The LPG system should only be serviced by an approved installer, and preferably returned to the original installer for servicing.

You will be informed of the servicing requirements in your user guide which you will receive with your certificate of conversion. This is usually a simple annual safety check.

What about my insurance?

It is wise to check with your insurers before converting, and inform them once the conversion has been carried out as it can invalidate your cover if not declared. There should be no increase in your premium provided an approved installer has converted the vehicle. You must also inform DVLA to enable the LOG BOOK? to be amended.
